Born in the Soviet Union and now living in its former nuclear adversary, the United States, I study transatlantic cooperation in addressing global nuclear proliferation threats. My interests span the two worlds that have opposed each other for a long time, but I hope to bring them closer together and resolve their contradictions through my work.
Coming from Belarus, a country divided by two identities and two languages, I struggled to find my own voice. I traveled abroad and learned foreign languages, but the answer was closer than I thought. I was able to express myself by combining writing and drawing. I compose cartoons to accompany my articles on security, nonproliferation, and US-Eurasia issues.
Having started as an opinions editor for Smith College Sophian and Cottey College Spectrum, I published my work in Belarusian Review and West Missouri Spirit, as well as on Salzburg Global Seminar and Nuclear Age Peace Foundation websites. In spring 2009, I graduated from Smith College summa cum laude. I am currently a New Voices Nonproliferation Fellow with Arms Control Association. I also work as executive editor for Bielar.us, a blog on Belarusian affairs in Washington, DC, and contribute to Across the Aisle, PSA’s Bipartisan Foreign Policy and National Security Blog.
